TOCKA
“Тоска (Russian, pronounced tos-ka) No single word in English renders all the shades of tocka. At its deepest and most painful, it is a sensation of great spiritual anguish, often without any specific cause. At less morbid levels it is a dull ache of the soul, a longing with nothing to long for, a sick pining, a vague restlessness, mental throes, yearning. In particular cases it may be the desire for somebody or something specific; nostalgia, love-sickness. At the lowest level it grades into ennui, boredom.”
The Zero electric motorcycle at the 2011 Chili cook-off and Motorcycle Show. They didn’t know what to think about it! The only electric bike in the crowd.
100% Electric ZERO S Motorcycle
This is my new ZERO S motorcycle. It 100% electric and super fun and gets lots of looks and some interesting comments. A few snub it off as not fast/loan range/loud enough, but this is a game changer. The EV revolution is coming from many angles and will help the getting people more comfortable with the idea and the differences that are considered negatives today.
With a 70 mile range I can ride to the office and back 3 days on a single charge from a 110 outlet in my garage. It will charge overnight and if plugged in every night it can be used for most normal transportation uses in my daily life (weather permitting).
This is the future and its cool to experience it on the leading edge.
Tia’s Graduation. Lots of hard work, late nights, worry over tests and lots and lots of homework. Tia worked hard also
DeltaFail: direct flight to Hawaii means land on LA, deplane, take all stuff, reboard, continue to Hawaii. Staff response “it’s a direct flight not non-stop”. Arrrrragh!
Traditional businesses focus on customers…Disruptive companies focus on non-customers. Be Disruptive. #IMDisruptive
This is a video of the EN-V at CES in Vegas earlier this year.
Transforming Transportation Summit
I’m attending the Transforming Transportation Summit in Detroit for the first time. It is exciting to see all the things happening around the world to address population growth, transporting people from where they live to where work and entertainment are. Bringing people together and returning them home.
I’m amazed that this Summit is much more than changing cars to alternative fuels. This was my expectation when I signed-up. There are representative cities from around the world including Mumbai, India and Mexico City and many U.S. cities. Each city has their own issues but most have simillar solutions.
It seems that there is no one solution but the answer is in multiple solutions and the key is top integrate them seamlessly together. The resurgence of walkable cities is a central theme along with public transportation to bring people into the walkable areas.
One thing I think is missing from the discusssion is the personal expression that is a big part of car ownership especially here in Detroit. Personal transportation adds a element of freedom that breakes away from the limits for the train and bus routes. One exception is the EN-V personal transportation project from GM. This is a two passenger EV that resembles a Egg on Segway two wheeled. the coolest part of this “car” is the electronics involved to control it. It is in the experiment phase but is designed with vehicle to vehicle communications for accident avoidance, pedestrian avoidance and ultimately auto pilot
Vehicle sharing is also a big theme. Car sharing, Bike sharing. These are existing in a small way but to integrating them with public transit for single card (or smart phone) to access everything.
There are exciting times ahead…let’s not hold too tight to our old habits but embrace new opportunities.
This summit is Disrupting the the status quo of transportation.
